Really. How long does it take to get a game reviewed?, if it is longer than the at least 4 months I have been waiting for HeroQuest, then BYOND needs more staff. I would be happy to join if this the case. I just want to know if what happened to me is normal.

most of the hub reviewers are voluenteers so they can only review in the spare time since people *DO* have personal lifes :)

If it starts taking a while, just ask a reviewer personally. :)
If they have the time, your game should get reviewed.

I don't have a life! Can I be a reviewer?

I'm asking the same question as Abra. If they all say "Oh, we're volunteers, we'll do it when we can" why not get some more? Seriously, it seems there's a huge list. They say they have 'people in mind' if they need more, yet the list keeps getting longer. They could at least try and find some people, see if they can review correctly, and get some new reviwers to speed up the process.

Stick World has been "under review" for about 4 months now.

They say that all you have to do to become a review is kiss Nadrew's ass.

All I've gotta ask is, is it clean?

There is a huge matter of trust involved. For all the BYOND Staff knows your plan could be to pretend to review games every now and then (when really you're just rejecting a few for random reasons) so that you can publish your own games instantly. I doubt you would do that, but I know a lot of other people who offer their services would love to do exactly that.

Also since I got the power to surpress games I've found out that hub moderation is a lot harder to do then it appears. Currently I log into FanGames and if they are breaking the rules I surpress them.
Doesn't sound that hard at all? Well you've probably forgotten to take into account that I have to download the files (which is hell when they're hosting on a 56k and don't have a download link), have a proper look around, continue going after I've found out they're breaking the rules (because they may be breaking multiple rules) and then I have to move on to any other FanGame hub entries they have in their portfolio (reguardless of if the first one broke any rules).
I have to do that even if someone has told me outright that it's a DBZeta rip with twelve donate verbs and ties to Osama.
All that and I'm not reviewing the games I'm just checking to make sure they don't break the rules.

If there's a donate button right on the hub, you don't have to bother looking for ties to Osama, do you? That wouldn't make much sense.

Well, I think the reason behind documenting all of the offenses the FIRST time around is so they can make sure that when (or rather, IF) the offender attempts to remove all material that got their hub(s) surpressed in the first place is gone, so it's quick as possible.

There is almost never a donate button on the hub. More often than not, they're in the game, which means the game has to be downloaded and played.

A lot of people underestimate the time and effort required to review a game. It can take an hour or more to properly review just a single game. A few can be automatically rejected for being in the wrong channel, but most of them have to be downloaded, played (usually past the point where you get tired of playing them), reviewed, and accepted/ rejected/ returned for resubmission. It doesn't sound like much, but when you have upwards of 10 games to review per channel...

Yes you do and it does make sense.

First; it's a lot easier (and fairer) to tell someone everything they're doing wrong and need to fix rather then tell them one by one (creating more work for both of us when we have to surpress/unsurpress the same entry ten times before it's clean).
Second; we want an accurate report of what this person is doing. If we went by your way the person could be getting away with selling FanChildPorno source code all because we never look past the donate button on the hub entry.

Hell, I've never officially reviewed, but my unofficial reviewing website (which will be up once I get some money to pay Oreldwin) is quite fun. I find lots of new/old games that are fun, but either not dicovered yet, or are too old for the modern BYOND community.

But, only some reviwers do multiple channels. C'mon. I hear ya, I guess it can be bothersome, and yes, you're volunteers, and I thank you for your time.

And if your worried about trusts, don't let them review or auto-publish their own games. And, give them some tests. Get some 'intern' reviewers which will review the regular submissions, and send them to a 'Should be accepted channel' or 'Should be rejected' channel for the real reviewers to check. If the 'intern' does well enough, they can become a real reviewer.

What I said wasn't exclusive. What I mean is, wouldn't that be an automatic removal of a hub entry without the need to delve into the game? I understand that you can't go by that by itself, but if it's that blatant why bother looking further?

Because they'll remove the link, and request re-review, and you'll have to do that. Then you'll find a donate verb in the game. You tell them to get rid of that, they do, and request it to be reviewed again. Then you find something else.

It takes less time and effort to just do the whole job properly the first time.
