This is a good time to knock on all the other entries, right?

If you'd like to play my entry, don't download it from Oasiscircle's big package link; Oasiscircle fumbled some stuff with my entry in that package. Instead, just download my game here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/97326368/Darke_HorrorGame.zip

I've finished writing the reviews, and I've made my decision for who'll get my prize, I'm going to wait until Oasiscircle is ready to post the results. FYI I've made all my judgement based on the .zip file Oasiscircle released. If he feels that there was an entry was not the correct file (in the .zip) and he wants to update it to whatever other version the author sent, I'll play it again and re-write my review for that game (and reconsider the winner for my prize).

Well that sucks, I've said multiple times that it's the wrong version, but since he disappeared he hasn't updated it.
| |
Since he's the one who organized it, I have to go by whatever he says are the entries.

Well, a lot of the games that used external files had that issue
We were in such a rush to get the finsal product out that we forgot to include them in the .zip That, and he renamed folders, causing the use of those files to popup with a file permission prompt. I know for a fact this causes issues with both my and D4RK3's games.

Now that I've played pretty thoroughly through all the entries, here's my top four in order, excluding my own game obviously.
1. Gravity by Bravo1 - Great game with an interesting story and excellent gameplay. The music is catchy and the graphics look great. Can't wait to see it continued and redone. My only issue was the scaling. By default the window was not the perfect size for the view, so the map is scaled and thus fuzzed up with BYOND's crappy filter. Not to mention that he doesn't let you resize it at all in any way. That's just my personal pet peeve though, I hate filters of any kind and need my games pixel perfect. 2. Yut Put's game - Fricken awesome atmosphere. The story and everything is very well thought out, everything having a purpose and meaning. As has been pointed out however, it was lacking very much in the gameplay department. However, it's still a shining example of an excellent indie-style game and a lot of work and thought was clearly put into it. The only reason I put it behind Gravity is because of the issue of gameplay. 3. HorrorGame by D4RK3 54B3R - I actually haven't had the pleasure to play it online, and when I play it offline I can't seem to actually get into any game play. Nonetheless, from what I've seen from watching his development livestream, I'm convinced that this takes my #3 spot. Gameplay looks great and fluid, the game looks nice, and the atmosphere is well presented in all aspects. 4. Dan's Motherboard Madness by Albro1: The game needs a lot of work, but I think it has great potential and is even fun already. It's a great little platformer. The music's kind of annoying though. In the end, I liked every single entry. Each was unique and fun in its own way. Some need more work than others, but this was a very successful contest!

Game-play kind of took a backseat for me because I was so focused on the atmosphere. For those who had trouble with my story:
The game takes the player through the five stages of death and dying. -First the player is in denial: "She's not dead. She can't be dead." -Then the player enters the anger phase, by killing the wolf. -After this is bargaining, where the player hopes that by recollecting all of the souls the girl will be brought back to life. -The depression is carried consistently throughout the atmosphere, but the water symbolizes it well -Acceptance comes when the player asks himself, "Why did I deny us?" and places the rose on the grave. At the end, he realizes his own fate and decides to take his life because he is "accepting" death. Of course, as a twist, the players who saw the good ending by collecting all the souls got to see her breathe at the end :p There's lots of other places I used symbolism, but I really wish I had better ideas for game-play. It's more of an experimental game than anything
Telling a compelling story is a great way to create something entertaining. Just look at Sword & Sworcery! I haven't had a chance to play yours yet, but looking forward to it :)

That's precisely why I still loved Yut Put's game. Sword & Sworcery does deliver in many ways game-play-wise, though.

I wish I had discovered the competition a bit earlier, Sword wasn't what I wanted it to content wise.

Now that I've played pretty thoroughly through all the entries, here's my top four in order, excluding my own game obviously. That was a problem on my part. Originally the games map was set to show icons at a 128px size. This looks great and works fine, the problem is: the entry I submitted accidentally had "stretch to fit" set as the icon detail. Needless to say, it degraded the presentation of the game. Sorry about that -__-

For those who had trouble with my story: I didn't have trouble with the story, and this is just about how I had interpreted it when I played. It was just not good enough of a story to carry a game with poor gameplay.

I've also just made it so that you can fire as many projectiles as you like. Originally it was limited like Megaman with max of 3 projectiles on screen but I found it made things troublesome when dealing with hard to hit baddies.

I love how everyone is screaming fraud, I know that that has happened in the past but I was just at a family reunion without any internet access.
Calm yourselves, I'm updating the post now with all the entries and the live links to the multi-player ones. Thanks everyone for the patience, I've still got to judge the entries myself! ps: Perfect 640.

Also, this is just a testing room I'm using, but can anyone spot the difference with this screenshot in comparison to the game you saw earlier?
