Even though a lot of these share similar types of sounds, I like to listen to all kinds of music - so tell me what you listen to and teach me a thing or two.
I tend to listen to more mellow stuff when I program and work on my pixel art stuff too. That aside, most of the music I listen to is the more technical classic rock from the 70s and 80s. It's rare for me to go beyond that, but a few bands have dragged me over the line. Sting is one of those people. I can't get enough Sting, whether it be his first songs with the police or the latest song he's written to this day. His music is great to program to as well :) Some examples of his stuff I love:

Be Still My Beating Heart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5IniDN2YFQ

Englishman In New York (My favorite right now): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60x0tJa1WI4&NR=1

Fragile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lB6a-iD6ZOY

Sting has quite a variety of styles he's experimented with -- all of which had excellent outcomes.

I'm also a big fan of Foreigner, Styx, Journey, Rush, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, and many more of those classic rock bands. Obviously, I love The Police too. Most of what I listen to isn't very hard-rockin'. Some of my death-cut-your-wrists-metal-lover friends find that strange.
Seems like most of this is vibe-y, which suits you.
VNV, Apocalyptica, and Coheed ftw. You should talk to Vermy-poo about music, he inherited a lot of mine, and he can probably give you a more filtered list than I can =D
Yeah, DT and I happen to have a lot of common interest in music--he just happened to know a lot of awesome I didn't. I'm going to look into more of VNV, Coheed, and Break of Reality, though. I never did finish that list DT gave me.
