 i think the shading in the first one better fits a anime style feel to the piece... 2nd one feels a bit to much o_O i like the more simple look better. | |
Second one is a definite improvement though... the eye-brows are a bit much though and don't quite match with the passive look on his face.

One of the tricks to see if you've shaded everything correctly is when you squint your eyes and you can still distuingish between the facial features and the feel correct...
