Did you by any chance find out if this occurs with BYOND's browser? I'm using @font-face with EOT font files (IE support only) in my browser controls, and it'd suck if my fonts weren't working with some Chrome users.
I use Chrome, and it seems to work fine for me, but I'm aiming for 100% of users here.
I didn't look that far into it because it was a fringe theory and didn't turn out to be the real problem. Honestly though I highly recommend not using IE-specific features just for future compatibility--if we ever have the ability to easily ditch IE we will.
