Descriptive Problem Summary:
When typing out a $ (such as $ping) or @ (such as @key-here) command in an input bar:
if there is a complete command and you click space, extra $/@ appear before. (this bug is like 9 years old. Forum ID: 119411)

if it's not a complete command, and you click space and try to select something from the list box that appears, and you do select one of them, that replaces the $ or @

Numbered Steps to Reproduce Problem:
1. Type $ or @
2. Either fill in command info yourself or click space
3. if you filled in the command yourself click space, and more @/$ appear,
4. otherwise, pick something from the list that appears, see it replace your @/$
5. be amazed at results.

Expected Results:
For the command to autocomplete
Actual Results:
multiple $s or @s appearing
Does the problem occur:

In other user accounts? Yes.
On other computers? Yes.

According to Nadrew's post referenced above, since 2002. The list thing would be newer, I think, so I guess ever since that was added.
