It would be nice if I could use different map formats for different individual maps instead of the map format being a world variable.

It's technically not feasible since the mapping formats aren't actually physical coordinate systems, but rather, projection formats. When games use two projection systems, they typically use two separate renderers. BYOND doesn't really have a means of altering the client renderer based on data that doesn't give any indication of the format.
