You could try setting up shortcuts for tools. That is if you're using something other than byond. Such as Gimp. I find myself also worrying about this, but then I thought one day that it's just how long it takes for me output and I'll just have to get used to that. Or find little nodes to attach my mind to so I can concentrate on some portion of it until satisfied and then move to the next. Nodes being color, form, lighting, texture/material.
