I'm not entirely satisfied, but I have something solid now. Making a test map for my project and I'm hosting to all to test.

I think I'm going to throw in the towel... again. Intending to take a 1 hour nap earlier, I accidentally slept through all of my alarms and slept for ~8 hours.

There's no way I can get my entry into a decently playable state with good content in the time that remains.

I made a lot of assets for this last-second contest entry. Maybe I'll be able to use them in other projects.

Wither it is playable or not does not matter i believe this contest wants to test how far and what you can do with the new 500 assets.
For me, this contest is about winning and about competition. I can screw around with the new features on my own time and for other projects, and I don't need a competition to motivate me to do that.

With no time remaining, even scoring in the top 5 seems be extremely improbable given the amount of progress I've made.
I'm going to leave A2J2TIWARI and I's entry at this. It is incomplete, but it is playable and is more of a...demo.

There are two bugs that I am aware of, but cannot pin down and consistently reproduce:

1. On rare occasions, the screen fade effects don't...fade. They just go straight to black. The problem with finding the cause is that I fade the screen many times in the game, and it works 99% of the time. I have a feeling it is an elusive bug with animate(). This isn't major, but it can be annoying when it happens.

2. SPOILER ALERT: I hate that I can't pin this one down, because I have to talk about the gameplay (Because this one is more major and can cause you to have to restart). On rare occasions, after solving the library puzzle, one of the bookshelves will not start "bouncing". There appears to be no fix to this except to restart. Given the nature of what is really happening in my code, I believe it is an issue of my own doing, but I'm not sure what it is doing wrong. It rarely ever happens though, and the demo is fairly short, so just consider yourself unlucky if you run into it.

Was Lolling at Calus Corp! This was fun!!!
Damn good job Makeii!! =D
I don't quite understand where animate() comes in, Makeii.
I added a little something with animate() within the final hour. That's all I can really do now.

-Good luck to those working up until the final hour :P

There's a glitch, when you jump and place a block under the player he sometimes gets stuck in it.
Bah, not going to be able to get anything playable in time. Work killed me... Not really a whole lot there, unfortunately. Didn't even try to make any decent graphics yet, not may effects set up. -sigh-

Actions are on a five second timer. You can choose a skill or an item with a target, or just drag yourself to a new location to begin moving there. Explore, kill stuff, gain items/equiptment/etc, finish side quests for loot, find henchmen, and make your way towards the center of the map to complete whatever the rounds goal is.

If you are the host, hold space and click a tile to teleport.
Sent in my zip with 5 minutes on the clock. Not that I was really done or anything :P Hope it works!

EDIT:

A little late (and not quite as finished as I would have liked), but I present to you:

"500 Fathoms"

<img SRC=http://files.byondhome.com/SuperSaiyanGokuX/ 500contest%202013-10-18%20012608.png?

http://files.byondhome.com/SuperSaiyanGokuX/500contest.zip

As mentioned, the game has no real instructions, so here's the run-down:

1) The objective is to make your way to the bottom of the sea (500 tiles down!), and find and destroy something special there (you'll know it when you see it) All racing against the clock, because your air is running out (did I mention you're a surface-breathing aquatic animal?)

You air will dwindle on its own, or in chunks when you take damage.

The round/run is over when you drown or when you find and eliminate your target.

2) Along the way, you'll run into (literally; Bump() into things to "attack") several creatures and obstacles:

  • "Puffer" - This round creature has sharp spikes hidden inside its spongy body. It can contract its body to expose these spikes. Eat these to increase your offensive capability, but beware of the spikes!

<li>"Spinner" - Also known as the "quatropus". This creature is mostly harmless, but they are too chewy to eat until you've bulked yourself up quite a bit. In the meantime, bumping into them will cause them to squirt ink into the surrounding water, slowing you down.
  • "Basher" - This little crawling creature is covered in a very hard shell (which may be rocks it has picked up, or perhaps some sort of rock-like biological armor) Eat these to increase your body's defensive strength (and durability against the increasing pressure of the depths below!) Beware, though, they are very tough.
  • "Glower" - These benign little spinning disks have a form of bioluminescence that can grant you the ability to see better in the depths.
  • "Zapper" - These little eel/worm things stretch themselves out of holes in the rocks, and flail bakc and forth, periodically zapping anything near them. Steer clear!
  • "Bubbler" - These little sponges sit calmly on rocks, filter-feeding and periodically expelling bubbles of waste air. Float over them to recharge your lungs!
  • The rocks - The rock formations jutting up from the bottom have outcroppings that are very hard and you wouldn't want to bump your head on them!
  • The "mystery" goal - This special target lies somewhere near the bottom of the sea. It is your task to find this target and destroy it. Why? No one knows. Perhaps the contents are a delicacy. Perhaps you've got some grudge. Whatever the reason, this is your whole purpose for risking your life to dive down this deep!

Dive in and enjoy! (beware, the terrain generation (and post-round tear-down) take a pretty large chunk of time. I'll work on this in the future to carve away at that delay)
@Magicsofa.

Step 1. Die.
Step 2. Hit escape.
Step 3. Hit escape.
Step 4. Enjoy walking through walls.

:D

Ending is a gray screen? :(

You forgot.

Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit.
Sent in the zip, ended up being a little late because some last minute bugs occurred.
I thought there was still 10 minutes left (according to the event calendar), but multiple people are saying it ended at different times??? Hopefully this isn't an issue, but here's my submission for those who want to check it out:

You should have checked the main post, because there was a timer linked there that showed the countdown to the official deadline.

That said, it shouldn't be an issue because WANO says in his OP that he will accept entries that are late by a few hours.

LOL...yeah I ran out of time I guess. Although did you get to the end by no-clipping? Because the last map is supposed to be impossible, level 14.
