Please Note that is not the Standing/idle stance that is more of a Brace/defensive stance.

EDIT: I don't know how people post them bigger looking things and where it only shows picture not link.

Here is a more up close img
fix his legs they are too far apart and arms i guess need more curve to em

i am guessing you did not read what stance that is? Its not an idle one IE they are meant to be apart like that because he is bracing for an attack same with the arms.

EDIT: if you watched a lot of martial arts movies when they are about to take an attack they widen their stance and extrude their chests some.

As for the icon, work on your perspective. You are looking at his face straight-on, but his arms are straight down when they are supposed to be out in front of him.

Also, to correct you on your martial artist knowledge, I'll just point out something that doesn't require martial arts knowledge - if you spread your legs and remain facing the attacker head-on and block a blow, you will be knocked off balance. To maintain balance you must stagger your legs and lock yourself to the ground.

How is the shading?
I can't give you critique on the shading of a disproportionate body.

How is it for a first try?
It isn't terrible. You have the wrong mindset, though.

Don't excuse yourself for mediocre work because it is your first try. Regardless of how experienced you are in something, if you do something, aim to do it the best. Then you can really progress.

When did i excuse myself? never once have i said that i only asked how good it was for a first try and what i was trying to do(IE make defense stance)

I'm not attacking you, don't get the wrong impression. I'm trying to help you improve.

You tried to excuse yourself and hopefully feel better about it by asking if it is good for a first try. Don't do that. Don't even ask if it is good. Ask for what is wrong with it. Once no one can give you a definite answer to that question, it's good.

Can you show me an example of what you mean? about the base
I think you're going for this:

This is good and all if the person attacking you is like...kicking you from the side or something. However, looking at this pose, can you see how easy this person can lose their balance and fall backwards?

This is what I was meaning. Regardless of the hand positions, pay attention to the footing and how much more stable it looks:
