This is not a bug. It may be an incorrect use of syntax or a limitation in the software. For further discussion on the matter, please consult the BYOND forums.
While writing up a tutorial, I included the tag <a name="ch2" \>.

However, the website "helpfully" closed the tag for me, which meant I had to convert every self-terminating <a /> tag to an <a>...</a> tag pair, because if I did not the automatically-generated <a> tags encompassed my entire post.
<a name="ch2" \> isn't normally valid HTML, because the a tag isn't a self-closing tag.
Shows how much I know about HTML, then. Apologies.

Additionally, self-closing tags use a slash, not a backslash.
Self-closing tags are also only valid in XHTML, which this forum does not use...
