How do I get stats to work and actually do things in my game

I have the Statpanel and everything I just need help on the actuall code of making them do things or a pointer to where to find this info.

Check out Nadrew's leveling system it makes stats do stuff.

var/damage
equal
strength defense, but never be 0?
