I encounter the same problem and deal with it in sort of the same way as that.. sorta.

You collect too many magical items, and the magic on them will begin to interact, making wacky antics ensue.

As an example, a person wears and carries a lot of magical items that add to one specific thing.. well, that person will get that one thing, which will soar to epic proportions.. but everything else will be comparable to that of a newbie. Who just died. Nine times.

Next example? John the Oldbie is wearing the most powerful everything in the game. And he can do this, because he's an Oldbie. He's been there done that, slain the dragon and made a T-Shirt of it. Although, with that much magic in one place.. weird things may happen. He may spontaneously burst into flames during combat.. He may gain or lose abilities.. Anything you can think of, really..

Of course, this means that you can liberally sprinkle your game with Fun Magic Toys(TM) and watch your DBZ-fanatic twinks frantically try and use them all.. but, you're not as cruel as me, are you?
