I have seen this in a few games and I was wondering how I could get the play now button to update the game instead of allowing people to log in only to see a message that an update is available

The play now button will only log you in to the server. In order to see if updates are in, you have to have downloaded it. When you download it, you download the most recent version. When a person logs into BYOND, if an update has happened they will be told of it, but that's about it.
