I've recently been going over the DM Guide. I didn't really know where to post this but what im doing is whilst reading the guide I'm taking notes, creating mind maps and writing down example pieces of code.
I didn't know wether this was a good theory of reading the guide. If not could anyone give me some tips on going about this.

I find it helpful to create proof of concept demos while I go about learning something. It doesn't need to be a full game, it could be a small feature or just a simple proc. All that matters is you fully understand how your demo works. Ask any experienced developer around here and they'll probably have a very long list of unreleased tech demos and unfinished games.
It's up to you to decide what becomes of them!
