This might also line up more generally with an earlier request to allow overlays to get clear of the parent's color. Maptext can always be applied to an overlay.

This can now be achieved (as Lummox JR mentioned previously) by creating an overlay specifically for the maptext, then setting the overlay's appearance_flags to RESET_COLOR.
