- Pets now have distinct base stats

What does this mean?
A side effect of this comes in the form of the dominant/recessive gene. Base stats are based on family (or species, whatever you prefer). Every pet has 2 families, a dominant one (actual species) and a recessive one (need not be actual species). So you can breed cats with dogs and get a ton of cats with recessive families of dog. Now the cats will all have the base stats of cat but their traits will probably be a mix of cat and dog. Here's the kicker. Through this recessive family gene, you can get a cat that looks exactly like a cat (in a text-only RPG) but is ACTUALLY a dog!

Why is this important?
Skills are linked to body parts. Suppose there's a skill linked to the cat head body part called "Lick Wounds" (May or may not be planned). You're a dog breeder, you breed dogs for the dog fights. So you breed dogs with cats until you get something that looks exactly like a cat but is technically a dog. You can enter your dog with Lick Wounds into the dogfights and have a competitive edge because your dog can heal itself while the regular dogs cannot.
