About time (give or take) for another of my check-ins!

I decided to drop in because I've been thinking about BYOND recently.

Due to a string of life-changing events, I find myself currently attending college! I'm on my way to a 2-year degree in CS/IT (the official title of my program is "Computer Support Specialist").

As part of the program, I'm currently enrolled in a programming class. And it's amazing just how well my experience with BYOND has set me up for it. I could practically teach the thing. The funny thing is, I've had to dumb my skills down to match what the instructor wants us to be doing (it's an "intro to programming" course, so she has some code structure requirements that don't work well with cramming function into as few lines of code as possible)

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive! It's good to see some familiar names still hanging around!
Are you going to school to be a computer support specialist or is that just the name of the class
That's the name of his degree program. Anyway, most IT degrees don't really matter when it comes to getting into the job. I know some people that went to college for Computer Science and the most they learned was how to install linux on a VPS and write hello world programs in Java.

It's more about having the paper and then getting a bunch of certifications than it is about actually knowing stuff. CS jobs throw you in the deep end and you either get good in a few weeks, or suck until the project tanks and your entire team gets replaced by a department in Bangalore.
Yeah, "Computer Support Specialist" is the name of the degree program. The idea is that it's meant for people planning on going into doing helpdesk work or other general IT stuff.

My own plan is to get into IT at a local business or factory (not public customer service type of support; just the in-house tech guy at someplace around here).

Long story short, I'm in this position because this past summer, the factory I worked for (not in an IT role) was closed down by its new owners. The workers displaced by the closing were all qualified for a government program ("Trade Adjustment Assistance") that will pay the entire expenses of qualified "training" (including vocational, apprenticeships, college, etc.).

So, I decided it was exactly the sort of opportunity I couldn't pass up, and decided to go back to school and pick up that little all-too-important piece of paper that tells potential employers that I know how to do all of the stuff I've been doing as a hobby for the last 15-20 years...lol
*cough* and in the process he's going to make a super cool BYOND game, yaaay!
I don't know about all that...

I definitely *want* to, but I can make no promises.

glad to hear your still around, alot of oldies have dissapeared over the recent months... also im that BYOND was really worth all the time you sunk into it :P

it makes me happy to know that BYOND truly wasnt a waste of time for people... I really is a great thing for people to get into... but I digress...

I think it would be nice if you were to remake/port Murder Mansion to steam or something... it is a diamond in the rough that deserves to shine brilliantly in the lime light. Greatest game I ever played in Late 2005...
