I was wondering what things I should direct a buddy of mine in the Army from the BYOND community so that he can get started learning not just BYOND, but how to program in general. This is tricky, because when I started the best thing I had was an RPG tutorial/demo thing that doesn't seem to be around anymore. There must be more current things that are commonly used now.

Thanks!
Ahh. Alot of people recommend the guide but I personally would start with the real world. Explain to him what object oriented programming is. The concept would then help prepare him for his learning.

Then I would direct him to some of the beginner tutorials that can be found on this site.

As a programmer he also can't be afraid of study. And if he really wants to take it seriously.. maybe invest in a few books here and there on programming theory?

But nothing beats starting at the basics and building on knowledge.
