In my attempt to creat a game under 4k, last night I wrote up a BYOND version of "Sixes," which was the dice game I created to be played in GS3, with a change. In GS, players must pound on the table... here I thought that would be too easy, so I gave us a moving target. A hamster. Unfortunately the game is approaching 10k, but I'm going to finish testing it and have it up by the next GoB.

These are the instructions for playing the game "Sixes" as created by me. Following the instructions is an example of play which takes up the majority of the document.

"Sixes" may be played by three or more players. One person rolls the dice at a time, and play progresses through those playing, each taking his or her turn.

A turn begins when the roller drops the starting pot (chosen at game creation). The usual starting pot is 80, but smaller or larger numbers may be used depending on how hard one wants it to be for rollers to earn a profit.

After depositing the starting pot, the roller calls out the number one. (This is done by "say"ing "One!" or, in fact, anything containing the word "one".) Any of the other players who wish to bet on this roll may smack the hamster (by clicking on it). The first player to smack the hamster receives the privilege of betting, which she keeps for the entire turn.

The bettor drops her "bet.". The bet is equal to the number coming up (in this case, one) times ten. In this case she drops 10 coins. There are now 90 coins in the pot.

Once the bet is dropped, the roller rolls the dice. A success for him is to avoid rolling the number up (one) on either die. A failure for him and a success for the bettor(s) is a one rolled on either die. The roller wants NOT to roll the number up.

In our sample turn, the roller rolls a four and a three on the dice. The turn continues. The roller calls out, "Two!" and anyone who wishes to bet must once again smack the hamster. If the bettor on the first number is the first to smack the hamster, she remains the sole player with the privilege of betting. If someone else smacks first, both have the privilege of betting.

In short, anyone who has won a hamster-smack is stuck in the betting for the rest of the turn.

In this case the two bettors each would drop 20 coins, making the pot 130 coins. The roller tries not to roll a two. If he doesn't roll a two, the turn can continue; he will call out "Three!" and the hamster-smack occurs once more.

But if he DOES roll a two, the turn ends. The pot is divided among all the bettors, those who came into the betting later winning the most in relation to what they put in. The next player becomes the roller.

The roller may cut his losses and end his own turn after any roll. The current pot is then divided among all those who put into it, including the roller.

The roller "wins" either by rolling double sixes or by not rolling the number called all the way through six. (Double sixes on the sixth roll count as a win.) Upon completing either of these goals he takes the entire pot. The game continues until all players but one have gone broke, or until it stops being fun. If at any point a player does not have the money to continue, he or she is "out."

Here's a sample game for you. Four players: Annaia, Burtan, Carr and Doc.

Annaia is first up as roller and she drops 80 coins. At the call of "One!" her friends smack the hamster, and Burtan wins. He puts down 10.

The pot is 90 coins.

Annaia rolls a four and a three, thus her turn continues. At the call of "Two!" Carr smacks the hamster first, and she and Burtan put down 20 coins each.

The pot is 130 coins.

Annaia rolls a two and a one. She has lost and the 130 coin pot is divided between Burtan and Carr, each taking 65. Burtan's profit is 35 and Carr's is 45. Annaia's loss is the 80 coin starting pot.

It's Burtan's turn to roll. He drops 80 and when he calls "One!" Carr is the first in. She drops 10 coins.

The pot is 90 coins.

Burtan rolls a five and a four and he lets the turn continue. When he calls number two, Doc gets first smack. Carr and Doc each drop 20.

The pot is 130 coins.

Burtan rolls a one and a six, neither of which are twoes. Once again he lets his turn continue and calls number three. Doc smacks first again so no one new gets in on the betting. He and Carr drop 30 each.

The pot is now 190 coins.

Burtan rolls a three and a three. The pot is divided among the bettors. Carr receives a profit of 35 and Doc a profit of 45. Burtan's loss is 80 coins.

When Carr takes the dice, drops 80 and calls number one, Annaia is first to smack the hamster. She puts in 10.

The pot is 90 coins.

Carr rolls a four and a two, but decides to cut his turn short before he loses much money. The two divide the pot; Annaia makes a profit of 35. Carr's loss is 45.

On Doc's turn, he calls out one and Annaia is again first to smack the hamster.

The pot is 90 coins.

Doc rolls a three and a four and keeps his turn going. When he calls two, Carr smacks first and she and Annaia chip in 20 coins each.

The pot is 110 coins.

Doc rolls a three and a four once more. He calls three and Carr smacks the hamster first, preventing Burtan from betting. The two bettors put in 30 each.

The pot is now 170.

Doc rolls a two and a six. When he calls four, Carr strikes again to shut Burtan out.

The pot is 250.

Doc rolls a six and a five and wants to keep going. He calls out "Five!" and Annaia smacks first, leaving Burtan out once more. The two in the betting put in 50 each.

The pot grows to 350.

Doc rolls double twoes. He calls out number six and finally Burtan gets in, which is bad for the other bettors. All bettors put in 60 coins.

The pot is 530.

If Doc ends his turn now, everyone would win 132 coins (with two left over), which is a profit for Doc. But if he rolls double sixes or no sixes at all, he wins the whole pot for a profit of 410.

He decides to continue and unfortunately he rolls a six and a five, making his loss for the turn 80 coins. The pot is divided among the bettors (with a remainder of two). Each receives 176 coins, which is a loss of 34 to Annaia, a loss of 24 to Carr and a profit of 116 to Burtan.

So far Annaia has lost 79, Burtan has won 71, Carr has won 11 and Doc has lost 35.
