Browsers have their own problems, sure, but for people who are good at it, laying out a browser with css is way easier than manually laying out onscreen map elements.

True, but unfortunately focus traversal is so broken in DS that a reasonable browser-based UI is all but impossible to achieve. Especially if you don't want to use +REP macros, which amplify the effects of network latency and make most people think that BYOND games are slower than they are.

Unfortunately, browsers gobble up +UP macros and screw up everything.
I know my post is a bit late, but I could try to strive for a brand new library that makes interface design more convenient and powerful. It may require the webclient though as my SByIo Library is aging and is already pretty much obsolete (though there are features from it that can benefit from a shift).

While I have been focusing on WebGL 3D research (using an existing tutorial I actually used for the demo and try to develop ways for library usage), I will continue to focus on a new UI-based library.
