Hello, Feeders(cheesy, but that is now your name(muaha))!

With the lack of updates lately, you're all probably thinking that we're not really working on the game, right? Wrong! While I admit we took a small hiatus, development on Feed is back in progress and I think you're going to love the changes that are coming in beta 1.5! I'm not one to spill things that aren't complete yet, but here's a list of things we're working on!

Beta 1.5:
  • More zombies. (two done!)
  • A new weapon. (hint: it was requested a lot and it can be.. hot?)
  • Medals.
  • Voice acting. (we're giving this a try. not guaranteed in the final release.)
  • Background music. (we'll see how this works out.)
  • Ammo crates.
  • Spectate improvements(aka: the ability to change who you're spectating).

1.5 will also be including some aesthetic changes to make the game a bit more polished and pleasing!

Screenshots:

The new login screen. The space below "connect" will likely be used to add a "spectate" button.

A preview of one of the new zombies. Vomit's on/around the player and stepping on the vomit will do decent damage to a player. The zombie themselves aren't very common or strong.
That looks rather impressive, I'm really looking forward to it!
One thing that is weird is that like, those messages in the lower right never go away. For example, I was playing and an AFK guy kept dying. There were 3 "[insert username here ] has died!" messages just stuck on my screen the entire time I was playing. I don't mind it coming up, but I think it should delete after a short time.

That's one of the aesthetic changes I am working on.
The messages in the bottom right will show for ~10 seconds and then fade off. Trust me, it was annoying me, too. (:
opinion changed

love the game, hate the controls
I sort of get the feeling from the screenshot of deja vu from some other game but I can't quite figure it. Ah well; it seems original and I am a big fan of Zombie shooters so I will give this a try later and let you know what I think.

Move with WASD, shoot with mouse? That's how things usually work...

it is more like, move with arrows and use f and g to attack and c and v to switch weapons and space bar to chat

i think he was high when he came up with that lol

here's my suggestions which are intended to help attract a wider audience:

-more weapons. if it's a pain to add them, make a more modular system. but this is important. it also adds a deeper progression element- and progression is essential to keeping bored people like me on your game. and if you believe in bartle then having more weapons adds an element of exploration to the game- explorers love to know everything and wide weapon variety keeps them searching

-unlockable vanity items allow for players to customize their character's visuals and add a deeper social element. sunday the 19th did this very well

-switch the controls to something like WASD with Q and E attacking or arrows and Z and X attacking. the current controls make game-play less tolerable, when in reality it's a pretty fun game. oh yeah and enter is the standard for chat, it's a pain in the ass to use spacebar

bugs/game-play issues:

-revives only work once
-i found it extremely amusing to cause grief to my team mates by blowing them up or lighting them on fire. i doubt that was the intent of allowing player to kill each other. IMO grenades should not hurt friendlies but fire should not be changed
-grenades are overpowered once you stack 12 and start decimating hordes of zombies. but at the same time this was fun from my perspective so i guess it's not worth changing
-I didn't look up the controls and had to figure it out on my own. if more people are like me then that's something you should look into.

That's how most BYOND games work. However, you can already play this game with WASD and the mouse like a proper game.
What on earth are you talking about? I may have seen one or two BYOND games with a similar control scheme

You haven't played many then? REO, Casual Quest, A Miner Adventure, several games by me, and etc...
Arrow keys as movement on BYOND is the standard (they are the default), with WASD being a rare bonus inclusion, and an even rarer core design concept.
I'm saying that the FG and CV thing doesn't work out. FG is okay to deal with, but CV makes things even tougher. On top of that, space bar is far from the standard to chat

Well, you can use left/right click in place of F/G. CV could be moved to other keys, but it would probably be better to just implement a numerical weapon slot/hotkey system.

Another awkward BYOND standard due to the way the default "say" verb/macro used to work.
Looks alright :D

-more weapons.
That's actually one of my next planned projects seeing as the samem weapons have been in use since the original Feed.
It's not a hassle, I've just been neglectful of the weapons. I've also been wanting to see about adding weapon progression for "evolving" or leveling up weapons.

Another planned project. This has always been planned however I had been putting it off until medals were implemented, which the first of which are going to be in 1.5.

-switch the controls
I think Falacy explained this, but Feed does support both UDLR and WASD control schemes with UDLR being the "default". I do agree that the control scheme needs to be revised quite a bit though. Any suggestions?

Yut Put wrote:

Revives are only meant to work once due to the original gameplay style where dead players wouldn't be revived every wave. I suppose with the newer model this could be changed, though.

As far as grenades killing other players, that was an overlook on my part when I removed the PvP elements. Added to the change log for 1.5.

hmmm... how about ZX for shooting and A and S for switching, sort of like Cave Story or my Blind Spot game
I'm guessing the new weapon is a flamethrower.
Love the sounds, sound effects and new Zombies. Keep it up!
Personally something I would like to see is some sort of perk for surviving a wave, such as a 5% boost in overall HP for each successive wave survived.

Also maybe some items that when used will get the zombies off your back for a limited time.
