Issue hasn't been assigned a status value.
Currently if we have an opaque, white square object with an overlay in BLEND_MULTIPLY blend mode, any transparent pixels of the overlay will pass through as solid white opaque. There should be a new blend_mode that treats alpha like the other channels so that transparent pixels in overlays are made that transparent in the base object.
Hmm. I think there's potential difficulty with that sort of thing, but it's something I can think about.
17 months later, I want this, quite badly really.
