I know it's a fairly generic title, but I get one of 3 results:

1: http://puu.sh/psG4H/e46f20496d.png (after viewing a video)

2: The "connecting" window shows up, then closes on it's own without viewing a video or anything, this process continues to run on my Task manager.

3: After a "Connecting..." screen I get this: http://puu.sh/psGct/e950939264.png

I know that the game can be reached, people have been successfully logging in all day. I just... can't...?

Was hoping to find some advice.
It really ought to be going through to the game after the ad, so something's not right there. But also if it's not reaching byond.com, that's a problem too. That kind of smacks of something like antivirus software interfering.

Make sure if you have antivirus or security software that BYOND is in its exceptions list--every file in BYOND's installation folder, not just byond.exe.
I uninstalled my Avast juuust to be sure. It's the same 3 results. I was able to get into the game but it wass lagging like a dicken.

After I think 20 minutes it finally stopped lagging. I dunno what it is, but similar issues have been cropping up to others on a similar source. Wondering if this is really a coding issue, but why would a coding issue affect pre-game connection (the screens in the screenshots)
It sounds like your connection to the game itself might be spotty, and maybe your connection to the site as well.

Game code shouldn't affect pre-game connection except if it's causing so much abuse of the network or the server's CPU that you're having trouble connecting for that reason. But if this is happening consistently with one game (and others basically just like it) but not others, I definitely wouldn't rule out a code problem.
As noted this is one of those... 'widespread' sources in the fangame sector. It happens to a # of servers, and usually to a small group if not individuals at a time.

So it probably is the game code or the servers *sigh*. Thank you Lummox
No problem. If you do get more info feel free to post it, though; anything could still be possible.
All I can say for certain is it's based around the "Era of the Shinobi" source codes (which in itself is an offshoot of the old "Shinobi Story Online" source). It occurs to all the servers that run it, far as I can tell although I've only been on and confirmed it happening to the game I'm on now, and the previous server ("Shinobi" game's "Sagas" server)
I think this might be related, although I doubt it, but that game has a growing issue with some objects refusing to show up entirely (hence are uninteractable and an integral part of the game's atmosphere), as well as the 'atmosphere' (the day/night alpha system) refusing to work.

We've pined this down to a BYOND version issue - new version of BYOND cannot load any of these things, and the conflict may be causing these servers issues.
Can you elaborate on that?
Well to make it simple, here's 2 images for you.

Here's me, after I downgraded to 509.1319

This is a little earlier, same timeframe (Dusk) in-game, from someone still on 510:

That's the game having made bad layering decisions, which subsequently broke in 510. The breaking changes involved are all documented. The most likely culprit is that they set the day/night layer so ridiculously high that it's now considered to include BACKGROUND_LAYER.
