If someone bought ownership to a game and another dude is trying to use the game you bought ownership from. Can they make the person trying to use their game down?

I know there is a process. Just dont remember if its through BYOND staff or what?

Copyright is a tricky subject.

When you bought the game, did you receive a contractual agreement to the Transfer of copyright?

Was the person you bought it from the actual owner of the copyright?

Something you should be aware of, if the person was not the individual that owned copyright on every single bit of code, art, and other individual assets that comprise the project, they legally had no right to transfer you the copyright and the sale of the property would be considered fraudulent.

Further, if the item being sold contained assets infringing other assets, the individual themselves would be infringing further in attempting to claim ownership and turn a profit off of the work in any way.

If any person claims ownership of any portion of the assets that you have purchased, they are legally entitled to serve you a Cease and Desist. They don't have to prove ownership. They are also authorized, should you choose to ignore said notice, take you to court. If they alleged that you still haven't obeyed their notice to cease and desist all activities infringing their copyright, they can also request that anyone hosting or distributing your violation of their copyright cease and desist.

He's not kidding. I saw one person buy the source of a rip from another guy for $2000, when the seller had stolen that code from another person, who stole it from another guy, which he stole from someone who spent $2000 on the code, after purchasing it off Tens, lol. True story.
