Surely you are aware of the IO game craze and how being able to literally just click a game and it plays with no extra steps is extremely important now.

So:
1) get byond.io domain
2) make it a webplayer-centric version of byond.com. webplayer ONLY there.

no engine changes needed. new players there need not know of downloading byond/pager, or registering a byond account, or of byond.com. they literally just click a game. and play it. that's how games work these days.

byond.com remains as is so legacy games are unaffected (SS13). devs here place games on byond.io as desired. it's a fresh start. it's modernized and streamlined and it's how things work these days. and it's a magnet for new players.

but you will have to improve the webclient and give devs the option bypass the account login and autolog people on as guest, and devs handle account creation ingame if their game even needs account.

i'm not sure you are aware of the potential here. this has huge "bang for the buck" because you already have most of the work done. 2 steps and byond gets 10x-100x more players and profits like you have never seen in your life.
cross traffic between sites would only mean more players for byond.com as well. two synergistic platforms.
It's funny you would say "profits like you have never seen in your life" but not once do you actually explain how to monetize the platform.
This is a brilliant idea.

Lummox knows tons of ways to monetize already. Other IO game sites run ads, and have membership to bypass ads. Same as here really. Add an API to byond for in-game purchases (Like the massively popular Roblox does) and Lummox gets a cut. Roblox is a lot like a glorified IO game site as well as you simply click a game and boom you are in it.
i already own http://byond.games

.io is a culture of Press Enter and Play.

someone already owns byond.io since 2014

godaddy parked the site.
Good news is Lummox can name the site anything he wants because no fore-knowledge of byond or downloading it is needed.

In fact, any of you could do this idea of making a webplayer-only site for byond.

Except that Lummox needs to make the webplayer actually good enough first. So for him, it's a one-step process.

And? It shows it was registered to a private user and won't expire until December (but it'll likely be renewed before that)

The broker thing just hires someone to negotiate buying the domain for you, it doesn't mean they'll actually sell it, nor does it mean that's what they'll take for it.

Exactly, you can track to see if the person will renew or try to negotiate with him directly or indirectly.
Or not?
Registrant info has to be public, but you can hire a proxy to register for you.

This guy did not.

How ever, 3rd party whois websites censor this info, going direct to godaddy's whois tool you can see who registered it. its the ceo of some company in california.
ICANN has rules in place that would give Lummox control of byond.io if he threw a fit about it.

It's a VR company. They've cropped up occasionally. BYOND VR.
