At the GoB things were going fine until I encountered some horrible, horrible lag. I didn't know whether to blame it on my ISP or the Dantom server. However, now I suspect I should mainly blame myself.

I never realized what a fragile, beautiful thing a working modem configuration is. Or at least I guess I assumed that by now, five years after the release of Windows 95, there would be more safeguards against well-meaning hardware ignoramuses (e.g., me).

Anyway, now things *seem* OK again. But heed my warning: if you have a perfectly good connection and one day it starts acting up, don't blindly rush to toggle every modem configuration option you can find. Yes, I know most of you know this. But if it helps only one person, it will make it all worthwhile. Or at least make me feel like less of an ass. :)
