Recently got a Vaio laptop with an Intel PRO wireless card. I have a wireless router connecting two PCs at my home to the internet. The Vaio can detect my network and connect, but only for a few minutes as it says it cannot obtain an IP address. I think it could be a security issue, but I'm not totally sure. My main PC is d-linked to the router, and I got the laptop online by unplugging my main PC and connecting the Vaio to the router. Tried connecting both my PC and laptop at the same time and the Vaio now cannot get online. I'm confused. Badly. Any ideas?
You're not getting an IP address from DHCP.
- Check that you're not filtering DHCP by MAC address. If you are, add the Vaio to the list.
- If you're doing 'static DHCP', i.e., specifying a MAC address - IP mapping for everything, no other DHCP allowed, set up a mapping for the Vaio.
- Check the IP address range allowed for DHCP is large enough for everything that's wirelessly connected.
