BYOND Build Number:454.1036
Operating System:Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
Video/Graphics Card:NVIDIA GeForce 6100
Game Hub/Link:N/A Dont know how to find that.
Internet Connection Type:Insight BB
Firewalls/Routers:Norton 360

Problem Description:Everytime I try to login the byond pager it says validating key for about 3 mins then it says Byond Hub: connection failed.

Steps to Reproduce Problem:Ive looked through other parts of the forum for similar problems to mine and tried the steps given to fix those and they have not worked.
Did you set all three main BYOND executables as exceptions with your firewall?
It sounds like something is restricting BYOND from accessing the internet.

The byond.exe, dreamseeker.exe, an dreamdaemon.exe? Yes I have all 3 custom allowed, allowing everything and anything so nothing can stop it.

Please go to Start->Run and type: cmd
then do: ping hub.byond.com
also try: ping byond1.byond.com

If those fail, try the command: ipconfig /flushdns
and then redo the ping tests.

Report results here.

Ok, so you can definitely reach the hub.
Could it be that you have more than one firewall?
You mentioned Norton and Windows XP.
Do you have the Windows Firewall active?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
I do have 2 firewalls, but only the Norton one is active. The windows xp one is off.

When you select 'File->Preferences->Advanced', what kind of entry do you see in the 'Hub Address' and the 'Pager Port' field?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Hub address: hub.byond.com
Pager port: 0

And i've tried putting the hub address as byond1.byond.com:2611 or something like that, im not dont remember exactly what the adress was but it was something like that, that i had seen in someone elses thread.
In response to XxDragon_GodxX
If you temporarily disable Norton, can you manage to connect, since sometimes Norton products are... well.. overly aggressive.
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Nope. Still does the same thing. Says validating key for a couple mins then says Byond Hub: connection failed.
In response to XxDragon_GodxX
If you go to 'File->Preferences->Advanced', note down the 'User Directory', then close the Pager, navigate there manually on the explorer, is there a key.txt file in that folder?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Yes there is a key.txt file.
In response to XxDragon_GodxX
Ahhh wait. I'm stupid. I'm not even on my computer at the moment. I'm over a friends. I'll reply and find out when I get home.
In response to XxDragon_GodxX
Please close your pager and delete that file.
Then open the pager and try to log in again.

Edit:
Maybe better make a security copy of the file in a different folder before deleting it ;)
Can you log in on your account at your friends computer?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Yeah I can log on over here. I am playing on it right now.
Yeah the key.txt file is there but all it has in it is:
BEGIN KEY Guest
*****
END KEY

Tried deleting it but still can't log on. It does the same thing still.

Should I put the back up back in the folder?

It should be automatically recreated.
I'll have to ask somebody more familiar with the system for advice, since I'm kind of running out of ideas on your issue.
Please be patient.
Thank you in advance.
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Oh okay it did.
Its cool. Thanks for trying to help man.
I'll be patient. I'll just keep checking up on this thread so whenever you find something new to try just throw it on here and I'll test it out.
