I actually thought the very same, though he stated that he can still play Counter Strike without any latency.
Now, while BYOND isn't exactly resource friendly, I'd be stunned if a simple pager sign-up would beat CS by that much bandwidth usage?
Since I'm short on explanations, I asked to get a speedtest during good and bad times though, then we should be sure to rule out a possibility ;)

i've revised my theory. which was that the router might be configured to give ultra priority to the wireless connections simply because no ones home atm and it still wont go.
last two times it worked were just after 2am my time

Will get on this today, yeah sure.
poor running atm:

Just to make sure.
These results are during you not being able to connect to BYOND, right?
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Thats absolutely right.
Here are the results for when I CAN/AM connect[ed]:

New York:

Auckland (New Zealand):

Theyre the same as when I couldn't connect.

Since you can ping the server, it means there is no issue with DNS entries either, so this leaves us with very few possibilities.
Either your ISP/network was blocking that specific port for some reason, or ... ans this is the real problem, there is something I can't think of.
In response to Schnitzelnagler
I could be wrong, but I think it has something to do with the time... I'm yet to put this to the test, but I was on just fine this morning at like 8am, and literally on the stroke of 9am, WHILE playing, the ping went to hell, until it was minutes upon minutes again.
And, I'm yet to get it working before the stroke of 2am, also...
Do you think perhaps my ISP has some insane peak-time blocker??
As I said though, it is only BYOND that has this problem and not anything else.
I have tried once more on 461 with no better results (although the game version is still built with 460 at this stage).

When it comes down to what an ISP would do, or wouldn't do, experience told me that I shouldn't try to think. Obviously enough I can't grasp their brilliant conceptions (and even less their service teams ;)).
I tend to think that everything fitting on a dice to randomly assign would be possible with them.
In response to Schnitzelnagler
Its absolutely official: I can play just fine once 2am has rolled by. Pretty much on the dot. $10 says at 9am on the dot, it becomes impossible again.
In response to Saucepan Man
I'd try and talk to your ISP, if I were you.
After more research i've come to the suspicion that it is games compiled with recent builds of BYOND is what causes the extreme lag for me.
Earlier I thought that some games worked and some didnt and it was fairly random. But games that have been updated lately are what've caused me so much strife.

e.g. DB Gekisen - An old, old wooden ship. And it runs just fine.
DBZ: heroes united, I would say it probably hasn't been updated in a while? (Guess)

compared to "Naruto: Way of the Shinobi" and "Ninja Arts", both of which fail to d/l resources, and when I can d/l them (between 2am and 9am), it wont connect without huge ping (outside of 2-9).

I had the exact same problem, I could log in from 2am to 11am just fine, then it was hell, and only for me

Only game I experienced the problem tho was on Naruto Way of the Shinobi while the only other game I tryed was Bleach Las Noches.

The problem came out of nowhere and vanished when I less expected

Lasted 3 months or so

I called my provider and they were unable to help me, and since Im in brasil(also not very near from America), I would say its probably because of the location.

You said something about peaks at night? Well, just to explain a bit, people usually sleep(losers right?), which means they arent on internet, therefore you got the internet all to yourself.
Its like having your entire city connected and using your provider and then at 2am - 9am there are only like 10 people on
