Graphics Inability

Problem Description:

Regardless of the game I attempt to play, the graphics that appear on my screen are either sharply limited or completely nonexistent. At best I'll see the player avatars, with no other images like the background and maps. At worst the whole game screen will be black.

Problem has persisted ever since I installed the BYOND client.

Steps to Reproduce Problem:

Click Join on a current game, run Dream Daemon.

On the pager, under 'File'->'Preferences'->'Games', is 'Use graphics hardware' checked, or not?
And try the opposite setting.
Is this only a problem with the map, or are all interface elements black?
Is the avatar being displayed or not game depended, or does it appear randomly in the same game?
