Ending the guild

I've decided to stop running an anti-rip guild, as I no longer have the drive to continue it. That, and an old pc that I'd rather not work to its eventual death so soon.

Some thoughts about rips.

We all know rips are bad for Byond. Look at the last 100 hub entries, it's 80 Naruto games, no real content, all from various source code. But why do people play them? Because some of them are fun. A fun game doesn't become terrible by changing the name. This is not condoning rips, just saying that I understand why those who rip care about ripping someone off about as much as their fanbase cares. Some people just want to feel like a game owner for a short time. I'm going to spend less time attacking rip owners and more time playing the good games and spreading the word about them. To hell with rips, and to hell with bitching about rips. Make and/or play something good like GOA.

I remember in your first thread mentioning this guild, people said you would do exactly what you are doing now. From what ive seen through the pager, you have spent a large ammount of time playing games with ripped material. You havnt even been updating this guild either, not for months, so its already dead.

I fail to see how its "understandable" to steal someone else's work, changing the name and claiming it as yours, or "feeling like an owner" and not do the work. The byond anime fan base is pretty pitiful, you cant base anything off of them, because the majority dont know right from left, and theres always the people that think they know it all, who are the same as them (like goditz!)

But whatever. Good luck doing whatever you want.

Finaly, somone who shares my thaughts! *high fives cheese* Though, steeling coding still isent right and something needs to be done about it. But byond may never get anything done about it, sadly.

You seem to think that it's impossible to understand why people rip. That is a failing. Something being understandable does not excuse it either, though it seems to in your comment, LG.

I base my opinion of byond anime fans on the byond anime fanbase. What else would I base it on? The RPG Guild?

I'm just tired of the random flame in my pager, and feeling like I should be doing something that isn't appreciated by more than a couple people on Byond.

From what you tell me in the pager, the new version of the game we spoke of finally matches another ripped game. Guess what? Eventually they all have a similar race list. It's DBZ, not Star Trek.

With regard to Byond doing something about ripping, they cannot do so without requiring full disclosure of all source code for a comparison. Being that, it won't happen ever. It's more work than to expect from a free-to-play network creator. They have no profitable incentive to do so.

I know what people said about this effort when I started it. Still, it was worth doing.

Someone last night called this a falling out between myself and LG, but I call this growth for myself. I just wanna be part of the background again, no more stardom for the Cheese. I don't even get into more than 2-3 games these days anyway, and the search for work is neverending.
