So when I got my PlayStation 3 I had nothing but shooter games - Metal Gear Solid 4, Haze and Uncharted.

The reason I wanted a PS3/360 is so I could play the impossible in games...

I went to IGN and checked out their Racing Game section. All I saw in the reviews were how much all these racing games wanted to be as realistic as possible. I don't see what people would get out of watching a racing game thinking they are actually driving etc. The only racing sim I have enjoyed is Forza Sport.

I want a game more like OutRun 2. It is straight up racing fun. No need to worry about hand braking on certain corners, or your car being bashed about.
So today morning I went old school. Brought out my playstation and put in Ridge Racer. Yes people, ridge racer. My god I can't believe how fun it was.

Now, I remembered seeing ridge racer for PS3 so I got pretty happy. Checked out the review which wasn't that great but I mean, every racing game on the PS3 i've tried has been pretty poor. I doubt Ridge Racer could be as worse as Gran Turismo or Grid. So I am going to bite the biscuit and buy Ridge Racer. Plus Ridge Racer 7 Doesn't look like some glossy plastic unlike Grid or GT5.

I also have Ferrari Challenge on PS3 which I bought recently - I don't regret buying it, though I am not exactly "wow"-ed by it either. It is a combination of arcade racing and sim...In my opinion it is a confused game.
Dirt, need for speed: carbon(prostreet sucks so much balls I can't even express the amount of rage I have for it), carbon is pretty fun though. Not to mention all of those ATV games and other need for speed games etc...that came out for the PS2. Also there's juiced2, but I donno how good it is. Ridge Racer 7 was one of the first games for the ps3 so I wouldn't expect too much. There's a much larger selection when you compare them to nintendo, shop around >.>

Need for Speed sucks. ProStreet tried to take on that Simulator approach and failed. Carbon is shit overall...DiRT looked pretty cool but the review was below average.

Yeah, carbon was pretty awesome. I loved that game a lot more than prostreet (which I've barely touched since Christmas; taking racing off the streets?! Wtf?). I still think it need street glow, though...
Need for Speed sounds more like what he's looking for if you don't like the simulator approach.

What would be your ideal racing game?

*What made me hate prostreet is the same announcer messages and lame races.

OutRun 2

Okay, Carbon wasn't that bad but it wasn't exactly great. The single player mode was cluttered with useless shit.
Try another game by sega then, like Sega Rally Revo or something.
Release Games aren't always bad...
Resistance is probably still the best shooter on PS3 imo.
hmm.. you could always go for Burnout :P
MotorStorm was pretty fun to play. I loved GT5, but because of the realism. Burnout is a good game for some crazy racing. And GTA4 is also really fun for driving.

I do agree, that I miss the "combat-racing" genre, which Mario Kart was born from. It was a casualty of true 3D worlds.
Burnout, Burnout, Burnout, Burnout!!!
Burnout is just stupid.
Whats stupid about burnout? its fucking awesome.

Nish: i dont want a realistic racing game where you have to worry about turning.

Nish: Burnout is just stupid.

What? You dont deserve your ps3.

Anyway, Besides burnout theres,Motor Storm.

Theres a ridge racer demo on the ps3 if you want to try it before buying.

I only got the PS3 because it was cheap.

What is so great about burnout?
You keep going on about how you don't want a realistic racer, but rather an arcade racer. Burnout is the best one out.

Okay is there a demo on PSN?
Or I might rent it and see.
Yes Burnout Paradise is on the PSN.

Wait wait....did you actually insult burnout without even trying it?

Ugh you need further nintendo purging.

I saw the IGN videos etc
Burnout is epic. The first Burnout was gamecube-only- I have both Burnout 1 and 2. Fantastic games, easily the best racers (with the exception of F-Zero).
