Each workday, during my 6 km route to the tech school where I teach HTML/CSS and basic programming skills, I join in a modern Danish version of the 'running of the bulls' - a mad dash from one side of the city to the other with hordes of other cyclists.

As with the Spanish counterpart, the route has its share of excitement, danger, and humor. Cyclists talking on mobile phones, slow-moving cargo/children carriers, lane-changers (who don't look behind them before moving), red-light jumpers, wobbly-riders, and people who move left before turning right all make bids to give you an early heart attack.

What's worse is that, while riding, people pass by (or are passed by me) and start asking me questions about the recumbent trike I ride. This causes them to take their eyes off the road to focus on me which raises the chance of them running into another cyclist or other obstruction, or me!

Come on people! Have the sense to at least wait until we are stopped before asking questions! And there is a website link on the trike.

Another thing that ticks me off are the people that I've passed who catch up to me at a stop light and move around me to get in front so that they can get through the intersection first. Hello brainstem? Now I have to do it all over again, which wastes my time and upsets any rhythm I try to achieve because I am faster than you - otherwise I would not have passed you the first time, right? What is even more funny is that I often pass them again in the intersection, making them look even more foolish.

Out of curiosity, why DO you ride a recumbent trike?
He gets a workout and does not need to pay for gas. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
I ride a recumbent trike because it's a heck of a lot more comfortable and less painful than a typical 'wedgie' upright bike, especially for long touring or everyday use. and by 'long touring' i mean 100-200 km per day for up to a week or more.

In my own personal case, I'm also quite a bit faster on a recumbent than an upright, I can carry more cargo when needed, and with the velomobile fairing/body I am protected from bad weather. I can ride all-year 'round.

And with three wheels, I don't have to worry about falling over in wet or snowy conditions.

I'm also a big supporter of any opportunity to save energy (in this case, as Maggeh mentions, gas). cycling in general is healthier, and leaves a small 'footprint' on energy resources.

plus, with the height of the sitting position of recumbents, you get a new perspective of woman cyclists! :)

I have a question that kind of doesn't have ANYTHING to do with what you are writing about however was brought to my attention through your post. If you teach a HTML/CSS class.... Why is your BYOND member page still default?.....

Not that I disbelieve you(I really do believe you), just that I think a teacher should have a nice lookin page :/

:p

ALSO!!! I learned how to use Hex codes!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah... I'll admit the blue is nice.. They should had made the default all BLAH so we could change it to blue and not feel like sell outs :(.. I had to settle with black and blue. A nice combo, but the default does slightly look better. Idk...
