OpenGameArt.org is an ever-growing repository of high quality, freely licensed art and media for use in Free & Open Source game development.

A brief note to indie game developers: Please check the license of the work before using it in your closed-source game. Much of the art contained in OpenGameArt's archives is licensed in such a way that it may only be used in Open Source projects.

I've been hired to make a anime style base for the archive. I imediatly thought of the countless fan-fiction based games developed on BYOND, so I came and posted here. Here is an example of some of the animations available to the current sprite sheets:

There will be more to come, including additional animations, hairs, eyes, emotions, clothing, and hopefully a female body in the near future.

Anime style? That is one creepy guy!
Yeah, must be the eyes. More eyes to come. :)
Good work Tayoko, How many colours in the pallet?

Around 10, I've included a greyscale version of the sprite sheet to allow users to make their own color ramps and skin tones.

Thanks. ^_^
I admire your work but i'm not as impressed as i ussaly am by ur work. Even thought its way better base work than i can do, i feel like the animations need some work, the colors a little creepy, and the arms are really skinny.
Well, i had restrictions with the frame count, that might explain the animation not being as smooth as it could be.

I went through an extensive stage of proportion editing with the owner of OGA to make sure the size of limbs/head where to his liking. You're not the only one to feel weird about it, I'm really betting it's the eyes. Well anyway, I'll be working on the base some more in the coming weeks so I'll take everyone's comments into consideration.

Thanks for the comment.
np, tayako good luck
Good find, Tayoko. Looks like they just got started, but, if all goes well, that would be a very popular site. I'm surprised I haven't seen this tried before.

I like the sprites! You've got some good anim going on with the first and last especially (walk cycles are a complete bastard to do right). Your shading is really excellent, too.

EDIT: Huh! That French site ( Les Forges) he's got in the links has some good stuff on there:

Very awesome tutorial links. reading them now. And also, thanks for the comment. :]

Going to try and sort out some of the oddities in the rest of the anims

Shame on you Tayo making up excuses... xD
Anyways pretty nice work it reminds me of that ancient tomb thing you have in your pixeljoint portfolio. Did you use the same pallet?
The walking North needs work especially the arms. The whole upper body of the one moving only his foot needs some work as well.
