Today when I woke up and checked on my computer, I saw my RPU server closed from my toolbar and my Dream Daemon stopped. Plus, all my browsers were open. At first, I thought it was someone who was using my computer. Yet, when I logged onto my server I saw all my current saves were deleted, which was impossible because I saved yesterday so I expected that it was a hacker or my server had crashed. I asked one of the users and they said they saw a hacker last night who claimed he was an "old-school" hacker, named OblivionMaxo.
I didn't see him in the logs since my server was closed when I woke up, so can you confirm that this OblivionMaxo is a hacker? Because if he is then I would like to take legal action against him for hacking my PC.

If you think you've been hacked, it's entirely outside of our remit ( and ability ) to do anything about it. That's a deal for law enforcement, not us.
Can we confirm he's a hacker? I've never heard of him. I'd say that 99% of people on BYOND who claim they're hackers are just trying to sound like internet badasses, and can't actually harm you. ( Or do anything at all to you. ) Of the remaining 1%, 0.5% are just people who've guessed or been told something like a shell server password or a username/password combination, and are decent at getting people to tell them this information. The last 0.5% might actually have some technical ability, but they tend to be above petty stuff like this. From what I can find, OblivionMaxo isn't a registered account here on BYOND. Search engines turn up nothing except this topic. Summary: I doubt he's legitimate. I don't suppose the user in question is still around for you to ask questions? | |
