DirectX Rendering through a VM?

I keep on hearing VMWare has made great strides in getting DirectX 9 to work well in a virtualized environment.
I can only find videos back from early 2009.

Anyone have any more recent experience with it?

VirtualBox seems to do this just fine for me, when running a few very awkward to install games.

Well I'm talking about games that require DirectX, like Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, etc.
