This will likely be the last documented release of Feed before discontinuation of it, but more on that in a minute. This patch includes a variety of features and fixes that we've been working on for awhile including teleporters, challenge waves and a challenging new map. Full list of changes:

  • All weapons now have a HUD icon so no more yellow meters as substitutes(D-Cire).
  • Ranks are now saved client-side(D-Cire).
  • Teleporters are fully functional and turn on after wave 8(MiddyMassacre & Kumorii).
  • Shop complete but removed after it was decided that it was ultimately an annoying feature(Kumorii & D-Cire).
  • New challenge map, 'Midnight', included which puts players in an exceptionally dark city area with an exceptionally high amount of zombies(initial count: 150).
  • Fixed graphical glitch with shooting while walking.
  • New challenge wave: 'World Ablaze'.
  • Reintroduced the 'Ammo+' overlay(v.1.9.5) with native maptext.
  • Minor bugs fixed.

As said above, this will likely be the last official release of Feed and as such, I will be working on one last update with a variety of community-requested features. Keep in mind that anything game-changing or stupid will be ignored. So feel free to leave your requests below! On a related note, it's been asked if Feed will ever be open-sourced. I've considered it and this summer I will possibly be selling the source for ~$80. Profits made from each(if any) sale will be split among people who have contributed to the development of the game.

Lastly, Darker Emerald and I have taken up a spinoff to Feed which can be best described as a Co-Op Storymode for 1 - 4 players. More details will likely be released tomorrow.

Happy Feeding,

As a matter of personal curosity, are you willing to elaborate on why this is being discontinued?
In response to Stephen001 (#1)
Certainly.

Feed started off as a simple game inspired by my previous project, Zombies!, and wasn't intended to be a large-scale project like I tried making it. It was definitely a learning experience and I learned a lot over the 9 months that I've worked on it. However, it's gotten rather stagnant and I've been itching to work on something new and story-driven while not completely abandoning the concept. Between that and having given myself until summer vacation before I had to start working on Zentrix again, I felt it was about time to leave Feed be.

It's a good game, but it was somewhat of a misfire and I'll potentially visit it again in the future but for now I want to work on something new and less mundane.
^ Real talk fo sho, homie.
Should be interesting to see what new concepts and styles you will play with next!

Thank you very much for the insight.
For something of a test project I feel it turned out well. Good job :D Also looking forward to the next project you are working on. Could you tell me a bit about that?
Well, there are two projects that are in the works. Both are still concepts but with one being more of a full-scale project than the other.

The first of the two is a spinoff to Feed that Darker Emerald and I will be working on that puts you and up to three other players in the position of a task force that's been given the job of locating and evacuating civilians and HVP from areas of high infection. The game will be story-driven and feature a variety of different tasks that involve clearing out an area of the infected, locating HVP, and escorting civilians to a pre-determined point. Being story driven, it will be level-based and won't vary much but with the inclusion of support for up to four players, should prevent the game from getting too repetitive.(ETA: Q3 2012)

The second project, Zentrix, is a larger-scale RPG that me and two friends have been planning for the past year or so. It's heavily based around an original RP me and one of said friends created when we were into forum RPs back in ~2004 - 2007. I don't want to say too much about this one now, but I really think Zentrix will be a great game granted it's completed as expected.(ETA: Q2 2013)
Sounds interesting and fun :) Looking forward to both. And of course playing feed more.
