Make sure you have wget and unzip installed if not
apt-get install wget unzip
On a side note you might need some extra stuff especially if you are on a x64 bit architecture.
apt-get install lib32stdc++6
apt-get install ia32-libs
Simply run DreamDaemon -version to see the version you are on.
If things aren't working you should download these http://www.byond.com/download/build/gcc/ - perhaps install them to /usr/lib/ - As I have never had the below issue in a long time 5 -6 years I can't recall where to place them.
NOTE: Make install really only works if you have the correct permissions on the system otherwise it would just be a make here - If things aren't working
DreamDaemon: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Install the libs above, obviously without permission you will have to ask the provider to do it for you.
