You can play through quests, train skills, fight bosses all by yourself. The only part that requires multiplayer is PvP, merchanting, and guilds/parties.

Though If you still aren't sure you can wait until the public release and judge for yourself.

I can't get pass the character selection screen.. I'm thinking it might be linux or something.

After you type in your name press Enter. Then continue with the rest of the character creation process.

I liked runescape a bit when i was younger, a BYOND version should be a bit better. I'm not saying it's horrible

This game isn't even close to Runescape. Its more of aspects from Oblivion, Diablo, and World of Warcaft.

I mostly Play WoW. But I didn't think it was runescape-looking-ish. Until I saw Woodcutting

I don't think it is because of Linux, I as well tried to make a character. First, my name was too long which in many games I find a pain. Than I made my name "FGuard", and it still did not work. That's about the time I gave up.
