Any other ideas you might have are most welcome.
This is a creature that I am working on. I have hit kind of a brick wall and need some advice. For one, I'm not sure if the colors of the roots in his head fit with the stony colors. Second, I am not sure how to shade the body. I want it to be the same sort of texture I gave the head, but I feel like the shadow from the head would obscure most detail.

Yeah I knew it looked a little off. I'll try removing the outline to make it blend a bit.
The creature is suppose to be in 3/4th, but I really wasnt sure how to shade the body. Thats probably what is throwing you off. Ill take your advice and darken it so it seems more at an angle.

I'd be inclined to expect darker, more brownish/dirty roots

![]() The roots look much better, thank you both for the advice. I used darker colors and removed the outline. I also darkened the body except for the chest, and move the legs back a bit too to help with perspective.

Here's a quick edit for you, sorry about the crappy tree, I rushed it because I hate doing trees if they're small like this. So the foliage came out bleh, but I'm hoping you get the idea. Also make the golem more rock like, you got the texture a bit but it doesn't really give you the effect of a rock or something. I redid one leg but you could do better, was just to give you some ideas on what you can do.

Lol yeah it's always good to read titles. The tree isn't that good but I did try to give him/her and idea of realism for this piece, I think it would work wonders.

I like the stylized tree more

I like the stylized tree more It was just a quick edit to give ideas, I also liked the other tree too, but I don't think it would fit well with the golem that's textured a bit since the tree looked flat. Anyways my edit wasn't done very good though like I stated last post, but a hint of realism would help

the tree is fine the way it is. the goal was not realism, it was to make the character appear to be whimsical

All I know is some realism would make the character more alive. We obviously have different views on the tree so let's leave it to Boxcar on that one, what I think is that the tree doesn't fit the golem because of it's simplicity compared to the golem. But you have your own opinion.

The first tree was better then the 2nd tree.

So give him help like he asked or don't post. What is up with these forums... Anyways like I was saying Yut, I respect your opinion
i'd darken the body a little bit more, maybe just making the chest distinguishable. past that the style looks really neat and he'd be a cool character to see in a game
