So, you are saying it won't ever get changed? Who would ever want to know what different areas there are in the game, what different types there are? If they ever wanted that behavior anyways, it would be easy to add it, and also why would they not want it like that for turfs then and objects if they want it for areas, it seems to me like it's needless to have it acting differently.
Since this is not a code discussion venue, it is also not the appropriate venue for feature requests--particularly feature requests that would fundamentally transform the entire language. Areas work a certain way that is perfectly logical; the reasons why are beyond the scope of this discussion. Again, the only issue left to discuss here is your original project and whether its behavior changed in newer versions. Confirm that, send me the project, and I'll look into it.
