How do you guys feel about a mobile app for developers that would allow them to manage their game hubs, forums and blogs from a mobile device. I suggest this because I don't have a working pc at the moment. And I would still like to be an active member of the forums etc. But using my Android phone makes this prospect kind of tedious. You could charge a small fee for the app that way you could also bring in a little bit more profit to BYOND.

I think if anything, make a byond mobile site version which caters more to viewing it from a phone. Not really a high priority thing as all the features you have asked for are available by accessing the website from a smartphone, but it is obviously not optimized for that purpose.

If this was made, it would have to be free, if someone outside of Byond saw the app, they might inclined to download it to check it out, more people on Byond makes more revenue (and simply keep the current format of removing ads with membership). That being said, there wouldn't be much to do on the app other then browse the forums (from an outsiders perspective), so it might not be that useful. Once flash gets implemented, I could see this having a much greater purpose if we run the flash games on-site. It would also probably be better to get someone outside of Byond to handle this, someone who would know how to build a good site app, also so it doesn't take away the devs from what they currently need to do.

Good point Megablaze. Especially considering the implementation of Flash. People could then play their favorite games from their phone. Anywhere at anytime, in turn possibly bringing more clientele to the BYOND community. Because a lot of people would rather play games with other actual people than some of this one player craptastic games that are currently on the market.

Unfortunately flash is not supported on iPhone or Android any longer :(.

Figures, but I also think it would be cool to include the pager into the app

It would be really awesome if someone could port BYOND to Android. A good Android dev would have no trouble I would imagine because I've seen many Linux apps successfully ported to Android.

LibGDX would be the way to go. BYOND multiplayer games wouldn't be optimal on mobile. Single player games and online text muds would translate very well, though. You'd really need a proper client/server model for multiplayer games beyond anything basic. | |
The original point of this was an app for the site, not for the games.
