Bleach: Lost Souls

It still remains a mystery, to me, why this games gets the amount of players it does...

Gameplay:
The game is basically like every other ripped Bleach game already on BYOND. "Monster" killing (Hollows) and dummy training (macro mashin)... And repeat.

Training is easy (although I will mention that the owner has raised technique requirements) and the game's maps are exactly the same as it's original source. Both these factors together make the game quite easy/boring as finding the necessary NPCs is a cinch.

The game does have "monster" killing missions/quests, which are specific to a player's race. These do help kill some time, but can get tedious after a while - repeating the same thing, surprisingly, gets boring. Monster killing missions/quests are also quite a common feature in BYOND games, and aren't exactly innovative.

Community-wise, I would say the game has an advantage over other Bleach rips. Both players and GMs are helpful (although GMs like to abuse that 'Announce' verb way too much) for newbies who come online asking for help. AND the OOC seemed rather active - although sometimes filled with redundant talk about ranks, technique requirements and "wut lvl r U".

Useless races: Inner Hollow. For those who don't know, this race is basically a carbon copy of the Shinigami race, except the player's skin becomes white (literally) and receives a white uniform.

Some suggestions:
- Add in more interactive/fun ways to train
- Find ways to make races, other than
- Shinigami/Arrancar more appealing to players (variance is a GOOD thing)

Presentation:
The game uses the typical SoC/InH icons and turfs for the most part. So, not much to comment on for those that are familiar with these icons.

There are some objects/NPCs that seem lazily placed. Have you ever been to a hospital to get a hair cut? How about to work out? Well, this is the norm in BLS, but I suppose the game doesn't go for putting some realism into the game...

However, for the few who haven't seen them before the icons fit nicely together. Although large areas of turf (grass, water, sand, etc) does have a nasty grid-like effect.

As a plus, the game does have alternate login screens each being nicely made.

Some suggestions:
- Work on getting a unique look for the game (I'll take some time to mention the game is looking for an iconner/pixel artist to help with this)

Originality:
As mentioned previously, the game doesn't have many (if any original iconning or turfs. This may be due to the fact the game is currently looking or an iconning/pixel artist, although that does NOT excuse the fact unoriginal systems have been added/still remain in-game.

An example of an unoriginal system in BLS would be the way a Shinigami "gains" their shikai. This is done by choosing a category (such as "Melee") and a description of a shikai (such as "Ripping your opponent apart").

The only original thing, that I have seen so far, in-game would be the "World Time" feature (presented as a verb and a rather annoying flashy thing at the above a player's tabs). However, this feature isn't the most useful... The time is set to the game owner's time zone and, amazingly, not everyone lives in the same time zone.

Overall:
Overall I wouldn't say this game is something that wouldn't keep ME interested for a long period of time, due to the repetitive/tedious training. And that the game doesn't bring anything fresh to BYOND's banquet.

Thanks. Not sure why the images in the actual review became blurry though (except in the thumbnails). Unless it has something to do with the thumbnails...?

Good job.

Thanks. Not bad for a first review, if I do say so myself 8D
I agree with you, I played the game due to the number of players it had. I played for about twenty minutes and then got extremely bored. I think that the game deserves the rating you gave it, especially if I quit within the first few minutes. Most games I can play for an hour without getting bored. OVERALL GAME RATING 2/10 OVERALL REVIEW RATING 10/10
I agree with this review good job.
I would say that this is a horrible review. It sounds completely bias. This was not a very good review. Honestly, the game could have used a much better critique. It's not always about the outer image as much as player base. This game, unlike any other Bleach game on Byond, treats its players like family. No other Bleach game ever does that.

There are a lot of Bleach games like that (I played most of them before they were all hidden xD). Besides, a game should be designed to draw players in from the get go... which is difficult to do when the game play is exactly the same as others. My review isn't biased, I offered suggestions for improvement (vague, but it's not up to me to design the game :P)... I even mentioned the active community and helpful GMs - I can't remember whether I got into any proper conversations, still you make it sound like I should base my whole review on the community rather than the actual game =/.

The game itself is fine albeit, it needs a few tweaks here and there. Not every player wants to run into something that looks different. They just want a balanced game with all the current races and powers. The community of any game is what keeps it going. It's currently in a state of being updated into something new.

I would say that the review gave no real justice to the game. It's not the best, but it's fine the way it is right now for the time being.
