These are pretty well done. I have this preference thing about black outlines, though. I think the black outline takes way too much useful space from the character. Take a look at the side view of your characters, and you'll see what I'm talking about. While it sharply defines the shape of the character, it also obscures the shape when used too liberally. For instance, I see you decided to eschew it for the cape of your human character, which adds a nice touch to the icon, but I still think you'd do better without (except for on that tombstone)
Here's some work I put together. I based the style off of another guy's work I found on the web. I really wish I could still find the thread where he was describing the game he was making, but it was also partially based off the style of "the three hundred" blog. I liked his humans, so I used them as a sort of base, and created a handful of creatures of my own using the style. Again, I really apologize for the lack of reference to the artist whose style I hijacked. ![]() See how much larger mine seem than yours? That's because the eye is drawn to the black outline, which creates the illusion of the object actually being smaller than it really is. Not only that, mine seem to pack a lot more detail simply because of the lack of space taken by the outline. It's really a matter of taste and style, so I guess as long as you are consistent with your style, whatever you do is going to look awesome. Your work is pretty good, though, in all seriousness. | |

I like it. It's really simplistic, but your lighting is somewhat inconsistent. The orange pumpkin looking things have a light source from the right, while almost every other tile has a light source on the left.
