This issue has been resolved.
Why is it that the website gets a different (wrong) player count for games?
It seems like a large number of keys are just completely missing off of player lists on the hub.
At the time of this posting the pager was reporting 100 more players in HU1 than the website was.
HU2 had about 90 in it, was reporting 10+ less on the pager, and 10+ less than that on the website.
Most of the time it isn't right, and seems to just get further off the higher the player count gets.
There is also the issue that it can't seem to properly sort games based on player count, especially the first few.
Please give us links and examples so we have solid info to work with. It is difficult to investigate any bug without a starting point.
Yeah this happended to a lot of games some games it takes off 2 some it takes off 5 some it takes off about 20

Example: http://www.byond.com/games/VcentG/Bleach?tab=live
That's not giving me much info, Ryuk. I need more than just a link. You didn't mention what I should be looking for on that page that shows a discrepancy.

So how Falacy & Ryuk25 said, Add that game to your pager, then check the hub and you will see those problems.

-Gohan Games (Yea, i'm gohan).
lol you can't find your way to my games?

Again, at the time of this comment, the website (anywhere/everywhere on the website?) was reporting ~180 players in HU1, while the pager reported about ~260. Its hard to tell exactly how many are in it, because there are multiple servers, but the pager is a lot closer to being correct.

HU2 is easier to track direct numbers, but has a lower player count overall. There are 83 in the game, the pager is reporting 68, and the website about 65. The spread in those numbers was a lot larger when I made my initial post. I believe it was 91, 76, 61.

As for the sorting, the first 3-5 games are almost always out of order, with a few others randomly placed down the line. It seems like it might just be sorting based on different/older data than its currently displaying - because it happens a lot more often when the numbers are close or when servers just started.
EDIT: http://www.byond.com/ members/?command=search&type=games&text=&sort=live&live=1
Apparently giving a link to the main games page http://www.byond.com/games/?sort=live changes over time? To my favorites? If I close the browser and come back maybe

The Correct Number is the one in the title description thing of the server, the incorrect one is the one for the hub. The One In the Description that the Programmer, Programmed Himself is the exact number to how many people are in the Game.
As you can see here almost all of them are out of order.
And this is what the game's hub page is showing.
Any word on this?
Could it be that some of the people in the game have their pager set to private or off? It won't report them on the hub if that's the case. The pager's numbers might be based less on who's reporting than the website.
Drat, I could swear this was fixed a while ago. I know we at least discussed it....

1) The pager and the webpage should be reporting the same values, so something is messed up there.

2) The webpage _should_ report the proper player count regardless of privacy/invisibility settings, since it is getting that info from the server, not the pager. That refers to the "Logged in: N players" section-- the individual player keys will only show up if they are public. However, I think Nadrew is correct that this part is broken, because a few months ago at least that was exactly the problem and I'm not certain it was fixed.

This should be easy to sort out so we'll get on it after resolving the more critical connection bugs.
We found several issues that we were able to resolve here:

- Some users were being double-counted in the total count.
- Players who were not on public pagers were not contributing to the count.
- The hub's count wasn't being kept up to date in real-time when players logged in and out, causing a slight delay.
- The server was misreporting some non-player connections to the hub as players.

The server issue will be fixed in 475. All the others have been addressed by updating the hub and website. We have also changed the sort order for servers so that now it's strictly based on the number of players, with ties broken by the age of the server.
Good times
The player counts on the Play Now tab do seem to match the actual player counts, for the most part. But the overall hub count, when viewing a list of games, still seems to be rather low. The pager seems to be displaying the proper player count. The website still seems to have trouble sorting games by player counts. http://www.angelfire.com/hero/straygames/ByondBugs/ HubCountsStillFail.png
