MMO and MMORPG are basically the same thing. Literally the only difference is that the latter is an RPG. Both still have the word "massive" in them.

If someone called their game an "MO," I'd think they were saying 'modus operandi.'

That's the thing. Nobody really ever says, "Oh this is an MO." or "This is an MORPG." The other person would probably be confused.

And people who don't like to type out their words aren't going to say it's a "multiplayer RPG". No, they're just going to say "MMORPG", even if it isn't that massive.
