I was reading over another forum post and I know BYOND doesn't attend to matters relating to an individual game. But where would BYOND stand if a game was distributing pornography, viruses, etc.?

It's never been a problem(to my knowledge) but would BYOND act on such an issue? Just curious.

I'm not a moderator, but I believe the game would be removed from the hub. If the owner tried to put the game back on the hub, they would likely be banned.

There was an issue a while back with a pornographic game, and that's what happened then, anyways. I'm not sure if the BYOND staff would take more severe action if the game contained malicious code.

On another note, what would be so bad about having a game containing pornography, asking you to enter your age first and then check off a box saying "I am above the age of 18 and this content is legal in my country", and having one such as that?

I know it's not prim and proper, or too good-looking for the site in some aspects to say the least...but, frankly, I'm just wondering what's against porn.

BYOND won't police the content of a game, all BYOND will police is the Hub entry that the game makes use of. You're free to create any game you want, with any content you want -- as long as you don't advertise it on the BYOND site anywhere; figure out your own place to hock your smut =P.

This goes with just about any game content, the only time action is taken is if the author is utilizing the Hub or any part of the BYOND site to advertise their game.

My friend asked me that awhile ago and talked with some staff, It is allowed, but it has to be on a Hidden Hub or something, and they are not aloud to mass page people to join it.

Sorry, you are mistaken. The hub cannot be used to advertise any kind of pornographic or malicious content, regardless of if the hub entry is hidden or not.

Pornographic hub entries are not allowed, period. Questionable hub entries are a different story, but one that's outright explicit is simply not allowed. There is no rule saying you can't use BYOND to make such a game and then host it and discuss it outside the confines of the BYOND hub and website, however.

Spreading malicious content is obviously also prohibited, with extreme prejudice. That's not tolerated by anyone, anywhere, and we are no exception.

Also, just to correct a possible misapprehension: Mass pages to join a game are technically pager spam unless they are sent to people who have shown an interest in that game. If the game itself is legit but your recipient list hasn't opted in even in a "soft" way (like by playing for a while), that's spam. Most such spam is not easy to enforce so we generally take a hands-off policy, but it is abuse of the pager and is a violation of BYOND's terms of service.
