Update (Ctrl+U) in Dream Maker

What is the purpose of "Update"? And what does it do?

I believe it updates the map and saves the icons, I could be wrong though.

I'm under the impression it updates the object tree.

It updates the object tree with new/edited objects, without compiling the entire game.
