Medals...

When you unlock a medal, it should let you know in game..maybe something like this?

This is something awarded by developers, and I think it's reasonable that the developers would want control over the notification. The best way is to create a little window or similar display and notify the user that way. Then you can style it however you want, or fit it into a part of the interface that is better for your game.
